CRUISE SHIP PHOTO ESSAY
GEM
GOES TO
THE BAHAMAS
Cruise ship photo essay - - Norwegian Gem - - Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) -- Gem Goes To The Bahamas
Nassau is a well-developed cruise
port and so Gem was able to dock.
Nassau is a busy port and several other
ships were calling there that day. Across
the pier from Gem was her fleetmate
Norwegian Sky (left and below).
Also in port with Gem was Royal Caribbean's
Monarch of the Seas (below).
By the late afternoon, Gem's stern was cast in shadow.
Great Stirrup Cay is a much
different experience than Nassau.
The private island is a get-away
from civilization.
Gem anchored off shore and the
guests traveled to the island by
tenders.
It was not far to the island. Gem's
substantial presence a short distance away
provided reassurance to the adventurers
playing in the sun.
In early 2011, as Norwegian Gem's
home base of New York was covered
with ice and snow, Gem did a series of
week-long cruises to the Bahamas.
The first stop on these cruises was
Port Canaveral, Florida. However,
the bulk of the time was spent cruising
the warm waters of the Bahamas with
stops in Nassau, the busy resort town
and capital of The Bahamas and Great
Stirrup Cay, Norwegian Cruise Line's
private island in The Bahamas.
Both stops provided opportunities to
photograph the ship.
