OVERVIEW
Celebrity Millennium is the lead ship in Celebrity's
Millennium class, which also includes Celebrity
Infinity, Celebrity Summit and Celebrity
Constellation.
All four ships have an elegant design and a
sophisticated atmosphere. While the ships are quite
similar, there are some interior differences.
This is largely due to the iterative nature of
Celebrity's refit process. In 2009, Millennium had a
$10 million refit which not only upgraded all of the
accommodations but made some changes to the
public rooms. Celebrity then decided to
incorporate some of the features of its new Solstice
class ships into the Millennium class ships as they
came in for refit. Constellation was the first to be
Solsticized in 2010. Pleased with the result,
Celebrity is planning an even more extensive refit
of Infinity in late 2011. Summit is to follow and
then Millennium in 2012. As a result, the four ships
are at least for the moment somewhat different.
Technologically, Millennium remains quite
advanced more than a decade after entering service.
She was one of the first major cruise ships to have
an azipod propulsion system. She also has a gas
turbine power plant, which is environmentally
friendly. Primarily because of the high cost of the
aviation-type fuel these engines require, all of the
Millenniums have been retrofitted with a diesel
engine to use for power in port and on those
occasions when just a bit of additional power is
needed).
Millennium provides an upscale premium
sophisticated cruising experience. Guests tend to
be sophisticated and between 45 and 65. They like
to dress up occasionally but they also like to relax
and be casual.
Millennium does Alaska cruises in the summer
months. When the weather turns cool, she transits
the Panama Canal and does Caribbean cruises.
As noted above, in 2012, Millennium is scheduled
to have an extensive refit as part of Celebrity's
Solstcization project. Amongst other things, this
will include the addition of new restaurants and
staterooms and changes to some of the public
rooms. Following that refit, Millennium will be
deployed to Asia and the Pacific.
Most interfaces between passengers and management take
place in the Grand Foyer. Here one finds: The
Guests Relations desk, the ship's reception desk
(above left). The Concierge Desk is next door (above
right) where guests can book car rentals, make restaurant
reservations etc. in the ports of call. The Captain's
Club desk for repeat Celebrity passengers is on the
port side (right). The Shore Excursions office is on
the starboard side (below right). It is next to the Future
Cruise office (below). Not far away is The Personal
Concierge desk, which helps with Special Occasions
(below left)
Millennium's centerpiece is the
Grand Staircase leading down to
the Grand Foyer.
Millennium has an extensive art
collection. The majority of the
works are late 20th Century.
