POOLS and
OPEN DECKS
CARNIVAL
SPLENDOR
PHOTO TOUR AND
COMMENTARY

The main pool area on Splendor is the
Splendido Pool area. While some
earlier Carnival ships have retractable
glass roofs over the aft pool, Splendor is
the first one to have a magradome over the
main midships pool area. "It is a
blessing," says Captain Giorgio Pagana.
"In northern Europe [where the summers
are cool], we could close the magradome
and have people there with activities by
the pool. In St. Thomas, when there was a
downpour of rain, we could close the
magradome and everybody relaxed by the
pool even when it was raining. When the
ship is in [Mexico] and it is very hot, we
can close it."
Included under the magradome is a 12
foot by 22 foot LCD screen and a
70,000-watt sound system making up the
Seaside Theater. This facility is used for
showing movies, concerts, and sporting
events.
The enclosed area is two decks high and
there is a balcony overlooking the pool.
Not only are there tables and chairs for
eating and for watching the films but there
are also large whirlpools suspended over
the sides of the ship.

At the aft end of the open
decks is the open-air Liner
Lido Pool. It also has hot
tubs, a bar and buffet stations.
The three-deck high Twister
Water Slide (above) deposits
riders by the side of the
Thunderball Pool.
Splendor has a nine-hole
Mini-Golf course complete with
elaborate decorations and
challenging obstacles (left).
For those who wish to keep in
practice for bigger courses,
Splendor has a golf practice net.
Other athletic facilities include:
the Jogging Track (below left);
ping pong (below) and a
basketball court complete with
grandstand.
There are also areas where one can just watch the
sea. Left: A
forward observation area.

Another idea that premiered on Splendor and which has
since spread to the rest of the fleet is the adults-only
Serenity Area. It features soft music, padded chairs and
loungers and has its own small bar.
Carnival Splendor was the first Carnival
ship to have a Water Spray Park.
