Carnival Fascination was the fourth ship built in Carnival
Cruise Lines' eight ship Fantasy class. (See our profiles
of Carnival Fantasy, Carnival Sensation, and Carnival
Imagination). When they were built, these ships were
considered quite large but over the intervening years,
Carnival and other lines have built much larger ships.
Thus, today, they are at the small end of the large ship
range. Nonetheless, these ships remain workhorses of the
Carnival fleet, providing a quality cruise at an affordable
Fascination (her name did not become Carnival
Fascination until 2007) began her career cruising from
New York. She was the first Carnival ship to do so.
Since then she has been based in a number of ports
including Miami, San Juan, and Tampa. Today, she is
based year-round in Jacksonville, Florida and
specializes in short cruises to the Bahamas, Florida and
Like all of the Carnival ships whose interior was
designed by Joe Farcus, the interior of Carnival
Fascination was designed around a theme. Fascination's
theme is a "Salute to Hollywood." Thus, you will find
public rooms named after famous movies or after places
connected to the movie industry. However, what makes
the design interesting is the imaginative movie-related
elements that have been woven into the decor. Of course,
Hollywood is also associated with glitz and glamour and
you will find elements of that in Carnival Fascination.
One of the reasons for the longevity of Fascination and
her sisters is that Carnival keeps investing large sums to
refurbish, refresh and modernize these ships. In
September 2006, Fascination underwent a major refit
during which all 1,026 staterooms and suites were
renovated. Several of the public rooms including the spa,
the main dining rooms, and the atrium were also
renovated. Rooms were re-located. New features were
installed. New equipment was added to the ship's theater.
In 2010, the ship underwent another major renovation
during which a large water park was added and an
adults-only outdoor area was created. Some balcony
staterooms were also added. Thus, Carnival Fascination
is a ship that is still evolving.
