Brilliance of the Seas was the second ship
in Royal Caribbean's four ship Radiance
class.  (Her sisters are:  Radiance of the
Seas (
See profile), Serenade of the Seas
(
See profile) and Jewel of the Seas (See
profile).

The Radiance class ships are a special
component of the Royal Caribbean fleet.
They are loved by mariners,
environmentalists and are a favorite with
Royal Caribbean's most traveled guests.

Brilliance is perhaps the quintessential
Radiance class ship.  She is a large ship but
not a mega-sized ship.  Thus while she has
the features that travelers demand of a
modern cruise ship, the cruise experience on
her is more intimate, like that of an upscale
premium category cruise ship. Furthermore,
her passenger capacity has been limited as
on a premium category ship so that there is
more space per passenger.

Brilliance is also a world traveler.  She does
not do a traditional world cruise.  Rather,
her itinerary changes throughout the year.  In
one year, for example, her regular cruises
took her to Dubai, India, the Mediterranean,
the Baltic, Eastern Canada and the
Caribbean.  There were even two cruises
from the continental United States - - the
first in five years.  As a result, she attracts
not only North American passengers who
are looking to cruise to new places but also
an ever-changing international clientele.

While Brilliance may be more international
and more elegant than her fleetmates, she is
still at heart a Royal Caribbean ship.  It is
not an altogether different cruise experience
but rather an enhanced version of the RCI
product.

Technologically, Brilliance, like her sisters,
is a mariner's dream.  She is  powerful and
highly maneuverable.  Using a combination
of a strong engine plant and two azipods,
she can turn quickly, allowing her to handle
ports where most ships of her size cannot go.

She is also more environmentally friendly
than most ships.  Her main power plant is
gas turbine engines, which produce less
emissions than traditional power plants.

As part of Royal Caribbean's fleetwide
program to bring features developed for
Oasis of the Seas and Allure of the Seas to
the rest of its fleet, Brilliance underwent a
major refit in the Spring of 2013.

AND
COMMENTARY
At the center of the ship is
a seven-story atrium called
the
Centrum.
Extensively re-done in the
2013 re-fit, the decor has
changed and the area has
been re-structured so as to
facilitate entertainment
offerings.
At first glance, you might not think that there is much art work on
Brilliance.  However, as you look around you see that there is actually quite
a lot.  It just blends in unobtrusively with the rest of the decor of the rooms.

For the most part, Brilliance's decor is contemporary.  However, there are
sections where it is quite traditional such as The Colony Club and the
Schooner Bar.  Appropriately for a ship, much of the decoration has a
nautical theme.

The Guest Relations Desk (reception) and the shore excursions
desk,
Explorations, are located together on the starboard side of
the Lobby at the base of the Centrum (left).

The
Crown and Anchor Society office (below) found a new
home during the 2013 refit adjacent to the Colony Club.   It is the
onboard home of Royal Caribbean's repeat passenger program and
the place where passengers can book future RCI and Celebrity
cruises.
