Quantcast
OVERVIEW

Norwegian Getaway is the sister ship to Norwegian
Breakaway.  Physically, the two ships are much the
same and have many of the same features.  However,
a conscious effort has been made to give the two ships
different characters.  Thus, experiencing one ship is
not the same as experiencing the other.

The primary way Norwegian has made the two ships
different is by giving them different themes.  While
Breakaway reflects her homeport of New York,
Getaway reflects her homeport of Miami.  From the
vivid hull art created by Miami artists David “Lebo”
La Batard to Latin-inspired bars and eateries,
Getaway seeks to convey the spirit of Miami.  Even
the ship's godmothers are Miami icons - - the Miami
Dolphins Cheerleaders.

This is not to say that the essential Norwegian Cruise
Line experience has been cast aside in favor of this
Miami theme.  Rather, there has been a South
Florida/Latin overlay over the familiar Norwegian
experience.  Freestyle cruising is still the order of the
day.  Signature restaurants such as Le Bistro, Cagney's
and the Garden Café are all present on Getaway.

The other way that Norwegian has made Getaway
different from Breakaway is by creating new venues
for Getaway.  Some of these new venues were created
to carry forward the ship's  Miami theme.  But some
important ones do not have a direct connection to
Miami.  The Illusionarium replaces the circus style
acrobatics of the Spiegel Tent with a multi-performer
magic show unlike any other.  Replacing the Fat Cats
Jazz and Blues Club is The Grammy Experience
where Grammy-nominated artists perform.

Getaway's cruise experience very much follows the
new model of cruising pioneered not only by her
sister but by fleetmate Norwegian Epic and the two
Royal Caribbean giants Oasis of the Seas and Allure
of the Seas.   These ships not only offer the guests a
variety of quality dining options each night but also a
variety of quality entertainment experiences.
Evenings do not just revolve around what is
happening in the ship's theater as under the traditional
cruising model.  On Getaway, full-length Broadway
shows, Grammy-quality musical performances and a
dinner theater magic performance are just some of the
entertainment options.  Indeed, if these weren't
enough, Getaway has its own fireworks display one
evening each cruise.

The ship offers a wide-range of accommodations
including the luxury ship within a ship Haven and the
studio enclave for solo passengers.

During her inaugural season, Getaway's schedule calls
for her to do weekly sailings from Miami to St.
Maarten, St. Thomas and Nassau.

Just forward of the Guest Services Desk but in the same area is
the
Cruise Consultant's Desk.  The consultant provides
information on Norwegian cruises.  He or she does not make
bookings for future cruises.  Rather, he or she sells vouchers
that can be applied to secure future bookings with a reduced
deposit once the guest returns home.  The vouchers also entitle
the guest to an onboard credit for the guest's current cruise.
The Cruise Consultant  is also the onboard representative for
Norwegian's past passenger loyalty program.

ships and learn how to get from one
place to another from interactive
electronic signs in the public areas.
678 Ocean Place is a shorthand
for Getaway's three main public
decks, i.e., Decks 6, 7 and 8.  The
centerpiece of these decks is a giant
chandelier that hangs in one of the
ship's two atriums.  It changes color
during the course of a day.

Norwegian Getaway, Guest Services Desk
On the port side of Deck 6 across from the Atrium
are the desks where guests interact with the ship's
management.

The
Guest Services Desk is like the reception
desk in a hotel.  Senior hotel officers often stand
in the area in front of the desk in order to meet
the guests and assist with questions.  Guests can
also make dinner reservations and look at menus
at the Restaurant Reservations Desk on the
starboard end of the Guest Services Desk.
Norwegian Getaway, atrium
Although Getaway actually has two atriums,
the forward atrium is usually the one being
referred to when people say the
Atrium.  It
is a crossroads, an entertainment venue and
essentially the ship's living room.

Connected to the Cruise Consultant Desk is The
