Cruise ship photo essay - Holland America Line - Maasdam - - In Canada and New England
The embarkation port
for many of Maasdam's
Canada and New
England cruises is
Boston, Massachusetts.

Here, at the end of a
cruise, Maasdam enters
the slip beside Boston's
Black Falcon Cruise
Terminal.
In order to get to the terminal, Maasdam
has to maneuver sideways.  Because there
is another cruise ship already at the
terminal, a tug boat approaches to assist in
the maneuver.
With just a little help from the tug, Maasdam
slides into her berth in front of
Jewel of the Seas.

Having arrived, Maasdam rests in the autumn sun
as one set of passengers disembark and another
set arrives for her next cruise.
Cruises to Canada and New England are
particularly popular in the fall.  There is
the attraction of the leaves changing color
and the fresh autumn air.  One of the
ships that often sails this itinerary is
Holland America's Maasdam.

On this page, we show Maasdam in two
of the more popular ports on this
itinerary - -
Halifax and Boston.
Maasdam docks at the Cruise Pavilion in Halifax.  In
front of her is the much taller
Caribbean Princess.
Consequently, passengers on the Princess ship are able to
see the bow of the HAL ship from above as well as from
directly on.
Halifax has a board walk from the Cruise
Pavilion into the central part of the city.  Due
to the curvature of the shoreline, one is also
able to get a view of Maasdam's stern (right).

The best angle of view, however, occurs as
Caribbean Princess pulls away from the pier
and Maasdam can be seen from the sea at full
length (below).
