OVERVIEW

Celebrity Mercury is the third and last ship in the
Century-class of ships, which also includes
Celebrity Century and Celebrity Galaxy (See
profile).  While each of her sisters has undergone
significant refurbishments - - in fact, Galaxy is now
TUI’s Mein Schiff - - Mercury remains substantially
true to the original design.  As a result, all three
sisters are now different from each other.

Mercury came into service just as Celebrity became
part of the Royal Caribbean family.  She entered
service with an art collection then valued at $3.5
million and her collection today includes
contemporary works as well as more historic items.
Overall, the décor is contemporary and tasteful.

When she entered service, Mercury was in the
middle of the large ship range.  However, with the
advent of the mega-cruise ship, she would now be at
the lower end of that range.  Thus, while she is still
quite big, she is not as big as most ships entering
service today.

As a result, Mercury is developing her own niche.
She appeals to people who are not comfortable with
the mega-cruise ships but who still want a modern
cruise experience.  In addition, she can be based in
ports where bigger ships cannot go.  This allows
Celebrity to serve customers in previously untapped
markets.

Mercury is diesel-powered with four diesel engines,
tow large ones and two small ones.  The engines are
connected via reduction gear directly to the
propeller shafts. This gives her a respectable top
speed of approximately 21 knots.  She handles rough
seas and winter weather well.

In 2010, Mercury is cruising out of Baltimore,
Maryland and Charleston, South Carolina to Florida
and the Bahamas during the winter and spring.  She
then proceeds to Vancouver, British Columbia for
Alaska cruises during the summer and returns to
Baltimore in the autumn.
