The elegantly decorated Riband Library
carries forward the ship's ocean liner theme.
The Blue Riband was an honor that went the
world's fastest ocean liner and there was great
competition for this honor in the first half of the
20th century. In 1952, however, the SS United
States crossed the Atlantic at a speed that has
never been matched by any subsequent ocean
liner or cruise ship.
In the library is a replica of the Hale's Trophy.
This was given to the fastest passenger ship and
usually went along with the Blue Riband.
However, when a high speed ferry crossed the
Atlantic at a speed faster than that of the SS
United States, a court ruled that the ferry's
owners were entitled to the trophy.
