Carnival
OVERVIEW

Carnival Imagination was the fifth ship built as part
of Carnival Cruise Lines’ Fantasy-class. (

profile of sister ship
Carnival Sensation) These eight
nearly identical ships, built during the 1990s, were very
successful when they entered service and remain popular
today.
Carnival Imagination was one of the first Fantasy
class ships to undergo an extensive refit program called
Evolutions of Fun.  The ship spent 33 days being
refurbished in 2007 with some $40 million worth of
upgrades and improvements.  While not an
unrecognizable change, the ship was significantly altered
so as to remain competitive as we enter the second
decade of the new millennium.
The interior of Carnival Imagination is largely the
work of Carnival’s designer Joe Farcus.  For each ship
he designs, Mr. Farcus develops a core concept which he
then uses as inspiration for the design of the various
public areas.  On Imagination, the concept was:
“Legendary Symbols of Antiquity.”  Consequently, one
sees ancient Egyptian deities and Greek-style winged
men here and there in the public rooms.  However, unlike
his later work, the core concept is not as evident.  As a
result, some of the public areas look more like a modern
hotel than on later Carnival ships.
During the Evolutions of Fun refit, some of the public
areas were re-done with new upholstery and upgraded
carpeting.  In other areas, the colors were changed.  The
net result is that the ship has a more restrained feel that is
perhaps more in keeping with the times.   This is not to
say, however, that all traces of the spectacular are gone.
Imagination can still impress.
Carnival Imagination is homeported in Miami and
does short cruises to the Bahamas and the Western
Caribbean.   Passengers tend to be a mix of first-time
cruisers and veteran cruisers out for a short
getaway.
