OVERVIEW

Carnival Ecstasy was the second ship built in Carnival
Cruise Lines' eight ship Fantasy class.  (
See our profiles
of
Carnival Fantasy, Carnival Fascination, Carnival
Sensation, and Carnival Imagination).  When they were
built in the 1990s, the Fantasy class ships were state-of-
the-art large cruise ships.  They were called
"superliners” and rivaled the legendary liners Norway
and Queen Elizabeth 2 as the largest passenger ships in
service at the time.  Of course, since then, Carnival and
other lines have built much larger cruise ships and now
the Fantasy class ships are at the small end of the large
cruise ship category.

This does not mean, however, that Ecstasy and her sisters
are obsolete.  Rather than sell off these ships into the
secondary cruise market, Carnival has invested heavily in
refurbishing and re-vitalizing these ships.  Ecstasy
underwent a revitalization after serving as quarters for
relief workers following Hurricane Katrina, she has also
undergone the Evolutions of Fun program and has
recently had elements of the Fun Ships 2.0 program
injected into her.  As a result, while she may not have
everything that you will find on Carnival's most recent
ships, she does have quite a bit.

Carnival uses the Fantasy class ships to serve two
markets.  Several are deployed in cities that are not
served by many cruise ships.  These ships bring cruising
closer to home for such communities.  Others, including
Carnival Ecstasy, sail out of popular cruise ports but
offer short getaways at affordable prices.  (Ecstasy is
currently offering four and five day cruises from Port
Canaveral Florida).

All of the Fantasy class ships have the same general
design.  However, they are far from identical.  Their
interior designer
Joe Farcus created a different theme for
each ship. As a result, while each ship had the same set
of public rooms when it entered service, the rooms in one
ship looked different than in all the rest.  In addition, the
ships were refurbished and changed at different times and
so reflect the changes in thinking that take place over time.

Carnival Ecstasy offers a lively cruise environment.
There is the flamboyance of her Chinatown Lounge and
Neon Bar and the cool sophistication of her Stripes
Dance Club.  She remains a modern cruise ship offering
an affordable cruise experience.
The Guest Services Desk is
open 24-hours and performs the
functions performed in a hotel by the
reception desk.  It is a center for
information and the primary
interface between the guests and
management.  It is located in the
lobby at the base of the Grand
Atrium.
The Shore Excursions Desk
provides information on ports-of-call
and shore excursions and sells shore
excursions.  It is located next to Guest
Services in the lobby.
Ecstasy's decor includes a
number of motor vehicles
including a Harley motorcycle
(left) and a Rolls Royce (right).
The artwork on Ecstasy consists
primarily of lively abstract patterns.

The Future Cruise Desk provides
information about Carnival cruises and
the line's loyalty program.
At the center of Carnival Ecstasy's
public area is the towering
Grand
Atrium
, which extends up from Deck 7
to a skylight on Deck 14.  Each deck in
between is open to the atrium and is
outlined in neon lights.  Glass
elevators climb the walls and a gold
staircase sweeps down to the lobby
level.

is the remains of the
bottle of champagne
that godmother Kathy
Lee Gifford used
when naming the
ship.  Gifford
appeared in
Carnival's first major

campaign, which is
often credited with
helping to open the
eyes of the general
public to cruising.
