Carnival
OVERVIEW

It is unusual for the third ship in a class to be a turning
point.  However, Carnival Breeze, the third ship in
Carnival Cruise Lines' Dream class (see our profiles of
sister ships Carnival Dream and Carnival Magic)
incorporates a number of significant changes from her
predecessors.

First, there is the appearance of the ship.  Her interior
was designed primarily by Partner Ship Design of
Hamburg Germany.  Only two of the public rooms were
designed by Joe Farcus, Carnival's longtime interior
architect.  As a result, the ship's interior does not have
the imaginative but sometimes controversial style of
earlier Carnival ships.

Instead, Carnival sought to have this ship more
clean-lined and open than earlier ships.  The line
wanted the ship to reflect the beauty of the places that it
sails to, in particular the Caribbean.  As a result, the
colors are softer and the interiors less dramatic.  The
designers captured the feel of a Caribbean resort, albeit
with a somewhat European styling.

But looks are not all that is new about Carnival Breeze.
The ship was the first ship built to incorporate
Carnival's Fun Ship 2.0 program.  Consequently, it
offers an array of dining options including a new
sit-down sushi restaurant, a new BBQ restaurant, a new
Mexican venue and a hamburger grill created in
conjunction with celebrity chef Guy Fieri.  Successful
venues like the Red Frog Pub and Cucina del Capitano
have been carried over from Carnival Magic.  The main
dining rooms, the buffet and the steakhouse all have
been re-thought.

Carnival Breeze also reflects new thinking with regard
to entertainment.  In the main theater, traditional scenery
has been replaced by LED screens.  There are new
shows and the ship's cast now are all singers and
dancers.  A partnership with Hasbro has led to new
game shows.  Another partnership, this time with
comedian George Lopez, has revitalized the comedy
club.  There is a new 4-D theater.

Of course, it is always dangerous to change a successful
product and Carnival is the most successful cruise line.
But the industry is changing and Carnival's competitors
have developed and are continuing to develop
innovative ships that are taking the cruising experience
to new levels.  With its new styling, dining options and
entertainment, Carnival Breeze presents the necessary
competitive response.

The center of the ship is the  Breeze
Atrium
which extends from the lobby
up to a skylight far above.  The
designers sought to bring the outdoor
indoors using natural light during the
day and during the evening, LED lights
and brightly colored lamps suspended
from the ceiling.  The object was to
create a Caribbean resort effect.
The decor of the staterooms continues the overall Caribbean
resort theme.

Right:  The ambition of the designers was
to make Breeze have the atmosphere of a
Caribbean resort.  Accordingly, large
panels showing beaches and other tropical
scenes  decorate the corridors linking the
passenger cabins.
